If you’re interested in spending time outdoors with your family, the new Family Outdoor Series is for you! This series of workshops brings families together to learn more about boating, fishing, camping and hunting. Weekly skill building sessions taught by dedicated professionals will teach important skills necessary for families to pursue their interests in the outdoors. This program debuts in the spring of 2018 at Cowan Lake State Park. Families can register to attend session one, two or both sessions.
The first session begins Sunday, Apr. 15 and meets several Sundays through July 15. Session one topics include the foundations of fishing, camping and paddling. The second session begins July 22 and will meet for several one-day workshops through Oct. 7. The focus of the second session includes archery, hunting and trapping.
Learning skills as a family unit helps participating families continue to pursue and participate in that activity. Family Outdoor Series hopes to build upon the success of ODNR’s Ohio Women’s Outdoor Adventure (OWOA)program to teach families skills that help them enjoy spending time in the outdoors. Family participation can facilitate a valuable learning process; participants will be learning not only from the instructors but from their own family members as well as from the other participating families.
Workshops are taught at a beginner level, so participants do not need prior experience. Families are asked to commit to each session as the instruction is designed to build upon lessons from previous weeks.
This program is made possible in partnership with ODNR as well as the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) and Friends Caring for Cowan Lake State Park.
