A new gunfire detection system is now live in the Hilltop neighborhood. After final testing earlier this week, the system, installed by ShotSpotter, records gunfire and sends location information directly to police cruisers in the neighborhood.
“Gunfire detection is another tool to help our law enforcement respond to incidents of gunfire, speed aid to victims, assist in investigations and the collection of evidence and, ultimately, the apprehension of dangerous offenders,” said Mayor Ginther.
Deputy Chief of Police Richard Bash encouraged residents to continue to call 911 to report gunfire. “We need the community to remain engaged. Part of the investigation of gunfire includes talking to residents.”
ShotSpotter technology is also being installed in the Linden and South Side neighborhoods.
