Waiting for his “chance”
Coach Meyer tells us not to wait. So every chance I have to get on the field, I try to put my best out there. I guess the Penn Sate game was when I had a really good game.
On Nick Bosa
That’s my guy! I look at Nick. I study Nick’s tape to get the little things that he does that I can add to my game. I look up to Nick. That’s big bro.
On post-Penn State win and Indiana prep
Our focus is on Indiana, which is a good team. Coach made a big emphasis in the team meeting that the young guys have to step up. Special teams and the older guys need to lead the way.
On his injuries
When you’re injured, you can’t play. I’m able to get out there and do a few things. I don’t want to miss any games. If I have to, I will. But if I can play, I’m going to play.
On punt coverage this year
At the end of the day, you want to do anything you can for the team. Me and Terry (McLaurin) have been having a friendly competition all year on who’s the best gunner on the team.
Not allowing punt return yardage
We take a lot of pride in that. Last year in that TTUN game, we allowed zero return yards. This year, I’m not sure what the number is right now but I guess it’s relatively low.
On his transition between positions
The toughest thing is playing off. I’ve been playing press man all my life and going to safety you have to play off, catch and all that. At nickel, I feel like I’ve been doing well for it being my first year. I’ve got tons to work on.
On being injured last year
It was a tough year. This year, I wanted to come in, work hard and get on the field some type of way. Talking to my parents and having conversations with the coaches helped me get through.
The key component is to win and to do it at all costs. We do whatever we need to do and if that means we’re throwing the ball, running the ball or running screens—whatever it is we have to do win games.
On Chase Young
Expectations get higher when a guy does really well. There’s a lot more he can learn but I like where his progress is going. He worked really hard in the summer and tried to learn. He’s got some good mentors.
How the Penn State game was special for him
It’s always special. I was really happy for our players because I think they work really hard to finish the game. They built a trust that is real and those kids play for each other.
