COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 16 Iowa scored 27 points in the third quarter to break open a close game and downed Ohio State 78-52 on Pink Day at Value City Arena.
Freshman Dorka Juhász notched another double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She was one of four Buckeyes in double-figures as Adreana Miller and Aaliyah Patty each added 11 points and Janai Crooms chipped-in with 10 points. This was Miller’s fourth game of 10 or more points this season and Crooms dished-out a season-high seven assists to go with a pair of steals.
The Buckeyes fell behind 17-4 early in the first quarter but slowly battled-back with good defense and timely shooting. After back-to-back threes from Crooms and Miller, Patty scored inside and gave the Buckeyes their lone lead of the game at 27-26 late in the second quarter. Iowa answered with the final five points of the half to lead 31-27 at the break.
The third quarter was the difference. The Hawkeyes shot 80 percent in the quarter and outscored Ohio State 27-10. Megan Gustafson led the Hawkeyes with 29 points and 16 rebounds on the afternoon.
The Buckeyes hit the road for a Valentine’s Day showdown with Rutgers on Thursday. This will be the first of two meetings with the Scarlet Knights in the final three weeks of the season. After leading the conference through the first nine games, Rutgers has lost its last two and is now in third place at 9-3.
