Ohio State Big Ten Tournament History
The No. 8 seed in the 2019 Big Ten Tournament, the Buckeyes are 26-14 all-time in BTT play since the event began in 1998. Ohio State has won 23 of its last 33 league tournament games, including 15 of the last 21. By seed, Ohio State is 11-2 as No. 1, 3-1 as No. 2, 2-1 as No. 3, 4-3 as No. 5, 2-2 as No. 6, 1-1 as No. 7, 3-1 as No. 8, 0-1 as No. 9 and 0-2 as No. 11. Ohio State has entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed five times (2000, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011). The Buckeyes have four titles (2007, 2010, 2011, 2013) and eight title game appearances (2003, 2006, 2009, 2012). Ohio State, 12-6 in BTT openers, has been seeded higher in 24 BTT games all-time and are 20-4 in those games. As the lower seed, the Buckeyes are 6-10 all-time. Eight of the Buckeyes’ opening games in the last 14 years have been decided by six or fewer points. Ohio State is 7-1 in those games.
Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament
Ohio State has played in more games (tied with Illinois) in the Big Ten Tournament (46) than any other league school. The Buckeyes also have the fourth-most wins (26). Ohio State’s winning percentage of .650 (26-14) tops all league schools.
Ohio State is 105-110 all-time when playing in the state of Illinois. The Buckeyes first played in Illinois at the University of Chicago Feb. 8, 1913, a 29-20 win for the Buckeyes. Ohio State has won at least one game in Illinois in 14 of the last 17 years and have played at least one game in the Land of Lincoln in each of the last 17 years. Ohio State will play at least four games in Illinois this season after defeating Illinois at the United Center in Chicago, 77-67, Dec. 5, 2018, UCLA, again at the United Center, 80-66, Dec. 22, vs. Norththwestern last week (L, 68-50) and then again back at the UC in the Big Ten Tournament Thursday.
Sophomore Kaleb Wesson was named 2019 Honorable Mention All-Big Ten by both the league coaches and media Monday. Wesson led the Buckeyes in both scoring (14.6 ppg.) and rebounding (6.7 rpg.). At the foul line, Wesson led the team in both makes (112) and attempts (154) while shooting nearly 73 percent.
With 253 wins in the last nine seasons (2010-19), Ohio State already has more victories this decade than in any other in the program’s history. Ohio State won 189 games from 1980-1989 and 188 contests from 1960-69. The winning percentage of .719 (253-99/352) in the last 10 years is the best previous winning percentage in a decade in Ohio State history. The win total is No. 14 nationally over the last 10 seasons and second only to Michigan State’s 263 wins among Big Ten teams.
The Buckeyes have four wins in nine tries in 2018-19 vs. teams that made the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Ohio State defeated two of those teams on the road (Cincinnati, 64-56/Creighton, 69-60), lost at No. 5 Michigan (65-49), at No. 11 Michigan State (62-44) and at No. 14 Purdue (86-51) while taking down UCLA (80-66) on a neutral court. At home, the Buckeyes fell vs. Syracuse (L, 72-62), No. 8 Michigan State (86-77) and Purdue (79-67) and have a win over Bucknell (W, 73-71).
Ohio State played nine games against teams currently among the Associated Press Top 25 or receiving votes for Top 25 consideration. Five of those games were played away from Value City Arena. The Buckeyes faced No. 6 Michigan State (home/ away), No. 10 Michigan (away), No. 13 Purdue (home/away), No. 21 Maryland (home/away), No. 19 Wisconsin (home) and No. 24 Cincinnati (away) among teams currently in the Top 25.

Jackson reached 100 career 3-pointers made with three makes vs. Cleveland State (11/23/18) … for his Ohio State career he is (143-388/.369) from distance … has scored 971 career points after a 22-point effort vs. Wisconsin and is working to become Ohio State’s 58th all-time 1,000-point scorer … Kyle Young, who missed four games with a stress fracture in his right leg, is 75-of-108 shooting this season (.694) … he returned to action vs. Penn State Feb. 7 after suffering the injury vs. Maryland Jan. 18 … Joey Lane has appeared in 14 games this season, with one start, and is 4-for-7 from the field and 3-for-5 from 3-point range … he also has six rebounds, six assists and a pair of steals in 2.7 minutes per game.

Indiana leads the all-time series with the Buckeyes 105-80. Indiana is 63-27 in Bloomington. Ohio State is 53-36 in Columbus while the Hoosiers are 5-1 on neutral courts, including a 2-1 record at the Big Ten Tournament. C.J. Jackson leads Ohio State offensively vs. the Hoosiers with 12.8 points in four career appearances. Kaleb Wesson averages 12 points and 4.7 rebounds in three meetings vs. the Hoosiers.

The Buckeyes own an overall record of 825-729 against current league members. Chris Holtmann is new to the Big Ten but no stranger to Big Ten competition. He faced six league opponents during his six years as a head coach prior to taking over for the Buckeyes last year. He entered his first year of Big Ten competition with a 4-5 record vs. conference foes. He is 27-23 vs. conference opponents in eight years as a head coach.
